27 Feb 2010 Board down?
 |  Category: Uncategorized  | One Comment

I can’t seem to get onto the board this morning.  It may be just me (it usually is, LOL).  I was just wondering if others were having problems, too!  It’s nice to have this backup place to come to, just in case!

I got an alert that the forum is expected to be down for a while today. Due to the recent server problem, they are replacing some bad hardware. While they are doing that, it will take the server down for awhile.

So feel free to post here and stay in touch!

18 Jan 2010 The Forum is Down

Unfortunately I have no idea what the problem is with the forum or how long it will take to be fixed. It is most likely a problem with the server since the site is also down for the host of the site. That means there is no way to ask them what is going on. I’m sure they are busy working on it and hopefully it will all be back by morning.

In the meantime, feel free to post comments here and stay in touch!

It seems that the server is down for the site. I can’t even get into their home site. I’ll try to see what I can find out and hopefully it’s not down for long. In the meantime, feel free to keep in touch here!

By the way, you need to register separately here to post. You can’t automatically use your login from the forum.

01 Jul 2009 Happy Birthday to the Mother of Soap Operas!
 |  Category: As the World Turns  | Tags:  | Leave a Comment

phillipsirnIrna Phillips was born 108 years ago today!

The universally recognized originator of one of television’s most enduring–and profitable–television genres, Irna Phillips is responsible for the daytime drama as we know it today. Her contributions to one format are unprecedented in television history. Television comedy had many parents– Ernie Kovacs, Jackie Gleason; TV drama had early shapers in Paddy Chayefsky, Rod Serling, Reginald Rose and others. But the soap opera had only one mother and she was it. She founded an entire industry based on her techniques, beliefs and the ongoing, interlocking stories that she dreamed……..

Today daytime is populated with the programs she created: As the World Turns, Another World, Days of Our Lives, and The Guiding Light. Guiding Light has now set the record as the longest running series in broadcasting history. Many other soaps on the air were created by those who began their careers working for Phillips: Bill Bell and All My Children creator Agnes Nixon.

Phillips believed her success was based on her focus on character rather than on overly complicated plots and her exploration of universal themes: self-preservation, sex, and family. She said in 1965, “None of us is different, except in degree. None of us is a stranger to success and failure, life and death, the need to be loved, the struggle to communicate.”

29 Jun 2009 Gravatars
 |  Category: Announcements  | Tags:  | Leave a Comment

So if you notice a little avatar by my name in comments, that is called a Gravatar or Global Avatar.  They are enabled here automatically.  I haven’t quite figured out what I have to do to enable them for original posts lol.

So here is how you use them.  You go to gravatar.com and register.  Be sure to register with the email you use here.  After that you are able to upload a picture and crop it the way you want it.  From then on when you post using that email, as it associated with your registration here, it will automatically post the gravatar for you.  Otherwise you’ll see the generic grey and white person by your post. :)

29 Jun 2009 It’s been a long time

Boy, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here!  Judy, the skin you’re working on looks great, can’t wait to see it up!  Did you see the smiley faces I included in a post yesterday?  The coffeedrinking ones?  Any of them grab you?

I tell you, I am already so over the Michael Jackson worship.  What is it with this country, anyway???????  Well, not just the US, but still…..

And am curious to see what happened with poor Billy Mays.  That’s scary, if he died because of something falling from the overhead bin and hitting him on the head!

07 Mar 2009 Amazing video!

This has nothing to do with ATWT but it did keep the world turning that day for a lot of people. It is a video simulation of the landing of the U.S. Airways jet Flight 1549 in the Hudson River done with the voice recoding between Captain Sully and the tower.  It really helps put it all in persepctive about how fast the whole thing played out.

28 Nov 2008 Links for the actors on As the World Turns

I’ve added a new page for links to the official and fan websites for all of the current and former actors on As the World Turns. I’m sure there are probably more sites out there. So if you have a site that you would like to have added, please send us an email with the information. Submit a site.

I have to say I really like using the absentee voting method. No lines, whether you vote early or on Election Day. How are you all voting, I mean method, not which candidates, LOL. I have to say that I was surprised at who Tom voted for!!!!
